Camp A Cappella coming up !

Dear Friends and fellow singers,

The A Cappella Society's annual Camp A Cappella is coming up this Sun For public) and next Monday & Tuesday (for students) and I would like to invite you to join us for an unforgettable time exploring not only your voice or harmony singing but also theatrical elements for
performance as well as solo and improvisational singing and creating harmonies without the use of sheet music.

These workshops are suitable for singers, would-be singers, choral directors who may want an insight into the pop side of group singing and just about anyone who doesnt mind giving it a try. It is also suitable for singers because you can always volunteer yourselves during the improv sessions, the scat session and so on. There's lots to learn and many other singers to meet!

Vocal skills

If you are primarily a  beatboxer / vocal percussionist , please give us a  demonstration (approx 2-3 mins) , which can include anything and everything you’re comfortable with (straight-ahead beats, fills, freestyle beatboxing, etc).  ALSO, please include a segment where you do a simple beat at a comfortable tempo along with a metronome.  No need to be flashy for this part, we just want to see that you can keep a solid tempo. If you are primarily a bass singer , sing us a  bass line  using bass syllables (dm, doom, bm, ba, etc.) and also a  bass vocal solo . The bass line can be something you just make up, or it can be an existing bass line. For the bass vocal solo, think along the lines of Old Man River, but it can be any song in any style. We just want to hear you sing a low range solo with lyrics. The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. INTERNATIONAL A CAPPELLA FESTIVAL 14 -18OCT 2009 The A Cappella Society would like to invite you to our International A Cappella Festival for 2009. The Festival will take place at the Esplanade Recital Studio and The Arts House Chamber. It will be spread over a period of 5 days, beginning on the 14th of October 2009 and ending on the 18th of October 2009. The International A Cappella Festival will showcase performances from 4 different foreign groups compromising of Permanent Fish from Japan, Rock 4 from The Netherlands, MayTree from Korea and Tux from The Philippines.
