Singapore A Cappella Scene, Aug 2004

A big thank you to all the supporters who turned up at A CappellaFest 2004 and the National A Cappella Championships in July 2004. We could not have done it without you. Thank you also to our stars - you were fantastic! And most definitely to those who helped out willingly without a squeak for acknowledgement ?you are the best! And last but not least, not forgetting our sponsors, National Arts Council and arts fund. Thank you! From these two productions, we move into Camp A Cappella at the end of the year, our annual singing camp for students [2nd & 3rd Dec] and adults [4th Dec]. (2) REPORTS NATIONAL A CAPPELLA CHAMPIONSHIPS 2004 We are happy to share that the competition drew a large and appreciative crowd of over 200 people who came to support and cheer on their friends at Mox Bar & Cafe on the 16th of July. Special thanks to all the participating groups and also to Tic Tac Tone who volunteered to host the event. Announcing the winners:

A CAPPELLAFEST '04 Our first major project and we lived to tell the story. Thank you for your support and feedback. We will definitely continue to develop ourselves in all areas including programming and administration. For those who attended the concerts, you would have gotten a glimpse of our official logo which was launched during the fest. Did you spot a cappella singers at the Singapore Idol competition? Yes indeed. In fact, we make up the better half of the cohort J With Alemay Fernandez (nanu / notations) and Joanna Dong (ngam) making it way past the first couple of rounds. Kudos gals and good luck! (No comments though, about the edits and mis-representation on television :P)

The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. International A Cappella Festival for 2009 info

INTERNATIONAL A CAPPELLA FESTIVAL 14 -18OCT 2009 The A Cappella Society would like to invite you to our International A Cappella Festival for 2009. The Festival will take place at the Esplanade Recital Studio and The Arts House Chamber. It will be spread over a period of 5 days, beginning on the 14th of October 2009 and ending on the 18th of October 2009. The International A Cappella Festival will showcase performances from 4 different foreign groups compromising of Permanent Fish from Japan, Rock 4 from The Netherlands, MayTree from Korea and Tux from The Philippines. This year’s line up of a cappella teams features a variety of musical styles with rock music from Queen, Police & Sting by Rock 4 (Netherlands), Pop from Permanent Fish (Japan), Korean Pop from MayTree and the golden oldies and familiar favorites from Tux (Philippines). Lao Langs @ Central S'pore
