From the Desk of The A Cappella Society ~ NOVEMBER 2007

As the year comes to a close, the A Cappella events we have to offer are bursting at the seams. For one, you should expect to see Camp A Cappella 2007 on your schedule. This year, it will be held at SMU* (to be confirmed) featuring one of the most interesting arrays of class topics in years to come on top of an exciting group of instructors. And if that?s not quite enough, Rockappella and M-Pact will be back in town! With so many events coming your way, there?s no way that you can?t satisfy your A Cappella cravings. On the other hand, we will also be putting up a list of school-based A Cappella groups just to show how A Cappella has developed in our little sunny island. We invite members of such groups to email us with details of their groups. Have a happy November! From the Desk of The A Cappella Society ~ AUGUST 2007

A Cappella mania has all but exploded! In July, we saw some veryexciting groups bring down the house at the National A Cappella Championships 2007. Of course, we were entertained by their gallimaufry of songs although one must admit there were hits andmisses. From the very tedious "Lean On Me" to an ingenious rendition of Elijah Rock, the music and each group's showmanship had somethingcolorful to contribute to each night. We, at the A Cappella Society, are especially heartened to see the intense competition this year, as a result of the groups? escalated standards. Yet, despite the close fights some groups have had, there can only be one winner. This year's champions are: Secondary School Category: The Exclamations Junior College Category: Altered Senior College Category: Resonance Open Category: Dischordant Remember, the championships only signaled the start of the fun-filledmonths ahead. In August, look out for our workshops that will satisfy your A Cappella needs

Review on S'pore Art Cafe GOT! showcase on 30 May 2007

The GOT! (stands for Gathering of Talents) showcase at the Singapore Art Cafe was brimming with talents. Such that a big group of curious library visitors stopped by the cafe to watch the showcase at the cafe. The first in the lineup was an acoustic trio of 2 guys and a lady named Soul Session who set the mood for a time of good music. Nextly a young a cappella mixed sextet Beats and Pieces appropriately gave the audience a good idea of what a cappella is by singing a doowop piece"Good Ol' A Cappella" as the first song. The group even sang hits of the early 1990s as "I Do" by now-defunct boyband 98 Degree and current hits like Maroon 5's "She Will Be Loved" Despite irregularities in pitching, the group didn't fail to lose their composure to hold the audience's attention as the audience asked for encore. However, the highlight of the evening was the beatboxer duo Michelle and Charles who captivated the audience with their vocal band antics

A Cappella showcase at S'pore Art Cafe, 21 Mar 2007

Indeed it was a feast for the ears and eyes as various groups performed for the a cappella showcase at the Singapore Art Cafe (SAC) on Wed, 21 March 2007 . Indeed a cappella transcends beyond the physical ability where most a cappella groups have decent vocal quality. This idea is changed that evening by the opening performance by a young adult ensemble consisting of a mixture of physically abled young adults with the physically disabled with muscular dystrophy on wheelchair sang songs such as "Lion Sleeps Tonight" and a Chinese tune (title unknown). The ensemble delivered a heartfelt performance (everyone who turned up can testify to it) which won a warm applause from the audience ! Indeed a cappella is for everyone ! The next group, Resonance (3 groups from the a cappella club in NUS) gave a convincing performance as they consists of the 1st years and seniors. The 1st group of Resonance gave interesting renditions and twist to familiar oldies such as " Fire ", &
