Happy New Year from The A Cappella Society!

December for us was filled with multiple productions from Camp A Cappella at Republic Polytechnic with The Idea Of North and Jamaica Caf , Vox Essentials, The Shanghai American Middle School A Cappella Ensembles to Christmas training and performances by The TAS Youth Voices!

This brand new year, we are looking at presenting 2 concerts and 2 music camps in view of presenting material to specific audiences. Do look out for our Youth A Cappella Festival, a concert by the youth for the youth and our annual A CappellaFest 06 plus 2 Camp A Cappellas this year. One for the beginners and one for advanced singers. Not forgetting our beloved Championships as well!

We are also looking into starting up a TAS Singers for working adults. Do look out for more details!

(1) FEATURE : SONG WRITING & MUSIC RECORDING SEMINAR
Produced by the fabulous guys at SoMA www.soma.com.sg , this seminar allows you to watch and experience a live demo on song writing and music-recording using a PC. It will be conducted by highly trained professionals in the industry and some of whom have graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music (USA), whose alumni include John Mayer, Maroon 5 and Wang Lee Hom.

Due to overwhelming response on the 7th of Jan, they will be having another seminar on Jan 21. Music technology allows us to produce a song with just a PC. How does one develop an idea into a song and then efficiently record it to sound professional? Experience a step-by-step live demo by industry professionals and graduates from Berklee College of Music (USA), whose alumni includes John Mayer and Wang Lee Hom.

(2) NATIONAL A CAPPELLA CHAMPIONSHIPS
This brand new year whip out your vocal chords and get that group started! If you dont write music, you can buy them at www.a-cappella.com or www.singers.com . If you need assistance, TAS can help you in searching for a mentor and if you need assistance in having those a cappella scores put into midi format to enable your singers (who do not sight read or play the piano) in learning the music, well hook you up with students who can help you!
You have 6 months to work on your presentation of 3 songs and we look forward to hearing from you! Please feel free to write us at angie@a-cappella.org.sg with whatever queries you may have.


(3) TAS SINGERS
Looking for an avenue to pick up some a cappella singing skills? Training and rehearsals will be conducted once a week at a central location for 3 hours each time at a low cost of $40 a month. The mission is to provide training and or re-training to singers who've been too busy working and who are looking for a fun and friendly environment to put some a cappella songs together. Depending on the quality and progress of development, there will be performance opportunities as well. (Singers aged : 20 and up)

(4) TAS YOUTH A CAPPELLA CONCERT
We are looking for a cappella groups aged between 13 - 18 years. If you have a group of singers in your school who wish to audition to perform in this concert, please send us your portfolio and a recording of the group to:

(5) AUDITION
Channel U is looking for the best Singing Group and has a category for a cappella groups aged between 15 and 35. Non-Chinese are also welcome. Wed say GO FOR IT! Do ensure that you will have time for filming when you do get in!

(6) LOCAL ALBUMS (Info from Kang Ching Mei)
Budak Pantai ~ has released their 4th album, a compilation album titled "Assorted Nuts" which contains old and 4 new tunes, was launched at their recent Christmas concert. You can get the album now at Esplanade or Arts House.

Key Elements ~ has released a single titled "Better Than Anything" which's worth buying if you like jazz. * No details were provided on where to get this single. Just send us an email and we will re-direct you. We also know other local groups like Tic Tac Tone and Juz B are working towards and or searching to record their albums. Were supporting you!

The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. International A Cappella Festival for 2009 info

INTERNATIONAL A CAPPELLA FESTIVAL 14 -18OCT 2009 The A Cappella Society would like to invite you to our International A Cappella Festival for 2009. The Festival will take place at the Esplanade Recital Studio and The Arts House Chamber. It will be spread over a period of 5 days, beginning on the 14th of October 2009 and ending on the 18th of October 2009. The International A Cappella Festival will showcase performances from 4 different foreign groups compromising of Permanent Fish from Japan, Rock 4 from The Netherlands, MayTree from Korea and Tux from The Philippines. This year’s line up of a cappella teams features a variety of musical styles with rock music from Queen, Police & Sting by Rock 4 (Netherlands), Pop from Permanent Fish (Japan), Korean Pop from MayTree and the golden oldies and familiar favorites from Tux (Philippines). Lao Langs @ Central S'pore
