It’s the tail end of June and here at TAS we are about to launch into our Shine Festival projects in July!

An exciting month for a cappella! We have a pop singing workshop , the National Competition and a Dance Party concert lined up for you and to top it off, a multitude of performances opportunities for local groups at the Esplanade Concourse.

We are also in the midst of fund-raising for to set up our office and staffing so if you are looking for tax-exemptions this financial year, please do consider the society and do your bit to contribute to growing this community. Write us at

SINGING TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP & PRIVATE CLASSES
Part of the Shine Festival by MCYS & National Youth Council
Organised by The A Cappella Society

Looking for an opportunity to get your voice accessed and to have an expert put together vocal exercises specially tailored to your vocal abilities?

Private sessions with award-winning singer / songwriter, Ms Annie Nepomuceno is available on 19th & 20th July. 10am – 9pm & 10am – 12pm respectively. Charges are $90 per hour for individual students and $60 an hour for up to 2 students per class.

(2) NATIONAL A CAPPELLA CHAMPIONSHIPS 2006 : 20th JULY
Part of the Shine Festival by MCYS & National Youth Council
Organised by The A Cappella Society

The date of the competition is confirmed for 20th July at the Esplanade Concourse.

Groups who sign up before the 1st of July will be entitled to attend the Pop Singing workshop by Annie Nepomuceno (Philippines) for FREE. The workshop date is set for 18th July from 3.30pm – 6pm for student groups and 7.30pm – 10pm for the public.

(3) VOCALAPPOLLOOZA DANCE CONCERT
Part of the Shine Festival by MCYS & National Youth Council
Organised by The A Cappella Society

Calling all teenagers! A dance party concert that will feature hot groups like Superband participants, Juz B, National Champs 05 Verve Enharmonics and Tone, TAG from Temasek Sec and the TAS Youth Voices who will be performing dance, hip hop and pop hits for you to groove to! The setting of the concert will be held in a blackbox venue which will allow us to re-produce a ‘disco’ space for you. No seats just lots of space to dance the evening away. Make sure to get your tickets early!

(5) PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

GOT! A CAPPELLA OPEN MIC AT THE SINGAPORE ART CAFÉGOT! stands for Gathering Of Talents. And that is exactly what is happening each Wednesday evening at the Singapore Art Café, located within the library@Esplanade. The open mic session on July 12 will feature vocal bands. Take this opportunity to perform in front of an appreciative audience or simply as a pre-competition warm-up before the July 20 National Competitions. For more details, contact Jonathan at

The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. International A Cappella Festival for 2009 info

INTERNATIONAL A CAPPELLA FESTIVAL 14 -18OCT 2009 The A Cappella Society would like to invite you to our International A Cappella Festival for 2009. The Festival will take place at the Esplanade Recital Studio and The Arts House Chamber. It will be spread over a period of 5 days, beginning on the 14th of October 2009 and ending on the 18th of October 2009. The International A Cappella Festival will showcase performances from 4 different foreign groups compromising of Permanent Fish from Japan, Rock 4 from The Netherlands, MayTree from Korea and Tux from The Philippines. This year’s line up of a cappella teams features a variety of musical styles with rock music from Queen, Police & Sting by Rock 4 (Netherlands), Pop from Permanent Fish (Japan), Korean Pop from MayTree and the golden oldies and familiar favorites from Tux (Philippines). Lao Langs @ Central S'pore
