I-SO-TONIC

TONE, the effervescent group of 5 presents I-SO-TONIC; Tone’s inaugural concert. Featuring current hits like Juicy, Nothing in This World, mainstream pop artistes like Rihanna & Beyonce in the company of classics and original a cappella pieces from The Real Group, Vox One, Teresa Teng and Stevie Wonder all done in a cappella fashion! Be sure to be enthralled by music of all genres from jazz to pop, evergreen numbers to latest R&B hits. It will charm audiences of all ages young and old!

A Cappella Ensemble CourseCome explore contemporary a cappella with the TAS adult ensemble as we embark on a 3-month journey through the world of the human voice. This twelve-week series of seminars-cum-rehearsals culminating in a public presentation promises to equip you with the fundamental skills of a cappella performance. Experienced clinicians will lead you and your fellow singers through a discussion of various topics, including i) recent developments in a cappella music, ii) elements of blend in close harmony, iii) dynamic microphone technique, iv) an introduction to vocal percussion, and iv) basic staging and song presentation. You will also be guided through the rehearsal of 3-4 songs from a variety of genres to practice your newfound knowledge.Course starts 17 April (Thursday) 8-10pm

Music Theory CourseOur new Music Theory course brings the uninitiated on a journey through music in study, performance and composition, ranging from the very fundamental note reading to a more profound analysis of styles and their development through time. So join us today, for our newly launched Music Theory Course! Learn to differentiate the 'towgays" in this course and unleash your potential to sight singing. This course conducted by Ms Evangeline Tan will guide you through the fundamentals of music, learning to read rhythm patterns & notation effectively.Course starts 7 April 2008 (Monday) for 8 sessions 7pm – 9pm

Pop Vocals for BeginnersLearn the fundamentals of singing in the style of Beyonce, Rihanna and other pop divas in this new course! Singapore 's soul sensation, Lim Huimin takes you on a musical exploration of the basics in pop singing, including securing breath control, posture, voice projection and singing through songs. Apart from pop & jazz vocal exercises that will help keep your voice in shape, you will also explore a variety of pop, jazz, mandarin songs and even ballads. This course aims to provide singers with a good foundation in singing technique (posture, breathing, anatomy, support, tone production) and then guide you on how you can use your voice for a variety of musical genres.Course starts 26 March 2008 (Wednesday) for 8 sessions 7pm – 9pm

TONE is Recruiting!

We are looking for part-time youth singers for year 2009/2010.

Interested parties that meet the following requirements, contact Rayner (renyar@gmail.com) or Jeremy (jeremy.hojj@gmail.com) to arrange for an audition.

Between ages of 18-21 (as of 2008)
With flexible day (morning/afternoon) schedules in the year 2009/2010.
Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone, Bass or Vocal Percussionist.
(Added Bonus) Educational/teaching background in music or arts related fields.
(Added Bonus) Approved music qualifications

Mochapella, an a cappella group (aged from 18 - 20s) is looking for aTENOR + BARTONE /BASS and Vocal Percussionist.- A cappella singing background and basic music knowledge is preferred.- Able to commit to weekly practices.- Willing to experiment with different music genres.Email Chingmei at chingmei2000@yahoo.com with CV (with demo if possible)
Camp A Cappella

A Cappella Championships

After another successful year for the A Cappella Championships we are already looking ahead to 08. Continuing with the trend of the last years we are seeking to grow the event further. Our current ideas focus on including international groups and choirs in new categories of the Championships. More details shortly on our website www.a-cappella.org.sg

Arts Education Programme with NANU

Our assembly programme continues with full swing after the holidays!

The Society did many shows in the schools in the first half of the year, and Rock pop A Cappella with NANU was well received everywhere and got excellent reviews, all the way from Primary schools to the National Institute of Education! Make sure you catch a programme that presents an interactive presentation of contemporary songs catering to an audience of all ages. This programme is available all-year round. It is part of the NAC’s Arts Education Programme and is Tote Board Fund approved.

The Society also has training programmes and workshops available for schools.

TAS Voices – Mixed group ages 20 and above, Tuesdays 7.30-9.30pm
TAS Youth Voices – Mixed group ages 12 and above, Saturdays 2-5pm
If you are interested to be part of the Society as a singer or beat boxer, auditions are open to everyone young and young at heart. The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. International A Cappella Festival for 2009 info

INTERNATIONAL A CAPPELLA FESTIVAL 14 -18OCT 2009 The A Cappella Society would like to invite you to our International A Cappella Festival for 2009. The Festival will take place at the Esplanade Recital Studio and The Arts House Chamber. It will be spread over a period of 5 days, beginning on the 14th of October 2009 and ending on the 18th of October 2009. The International A Cappella Festival will showcase performances from 4 different foreign groups compromising of Permanent Fish from Japan, Rock 4 from The Netherlands, MayTree from Korea and Tux from The Philippines. This year’s line up of a cappella teams features a variety of musical styles with rock music from Queen, Police & Sting by Rock 4 (Netherlands), Pop from Permanent Fish (Japan), Korean Pop from MayTree and the golden oldies and familiar favorites from Tux (Philippines).
