Vocal Mania 2008

Dear Singers,


The A Cappella Society is happy to present Vocal Mania 2008, a choral cum a
cappella concert to be held at the Singapore Conference Hall on the 10th of
November, in support of presenting more performance opportunities to local
youth choirs in larger venues and allowing them to explore a variety of
acoustic settings and of course, to perform for a sizable audience.

Perhaps you and your friends may appreciate an evening outing to a concert
that will showcase not only traditional choral works but also pop a
cappella? We would definitely love to have you at the concert.

This year, we present a range of established choirs in performance and they
will present a host of songs from different musical genres.

The stars of the evening are:
St Andrew's Secondary School Choir
Christ Church Secondary School Choir
Ang Mo Kio Secondary School Choir
Pasir Ris Secondary School Choir

TAS Youth Voices
TAS Voices

The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. INTERNATIONAL A CAPPELLA FESTIVAL 14 -18OCT 2009 The A Cappella Society would like to invite you to our International A Cappella Festival for 2009. The Festival will take place at the Esplanade Recital Studio and The Arts House Chamber. It will be spread over a period of 5 days, beginning on the 14th of October 2009 and ending on the 18th of October 2009. The International A Cappella Festival will showcase performances from 4 different foreign groups compromising of Permanent Fish from Japan, Rock 4 from The Netherlands, MayTree from Korea and Tux from The Philippines. This year’s line up of a cappella teams features a variety of musical styles with rock music from Queen, Police & Sting by Rock 4 (Netherlands), Pop from Permanent Fish (Japan), Korean Pop from MayTree and the golden oldies and familiar favorites from Tux (Philippines).
