From the Desk of the A Cappella Society, Jan 2005

A warm welcome to the first edition of the Singapore A Cappella Scene newsletter 2005.

There's been a lot of hard work put inbehind the scenes and this year you see a slew of pretty incredible acts in Singapore. There are also a number of fund-raising efforts being put together for fund-raising in the wake of the Tsunami disaster. If you have the time to sing for a good cause, this would be a superb time to do so. Write us for more details.

Kudos also to Budak Pantai who started the year with a concert dedicated to that cause early Jan. I'll leave you to digest this month's update for now and will be back with more exciting news soon.

Humbly,Angie

When Isay stories, I mean several things- wedding stories, funeralstories, choir rehearsal stories, staff meeting stories, clergystories, denominational "quirk" stories, regional differencesstories, service and Mass stories... and more. I'm looking for thegood, the bad, and the ugly! Well, not quite! I'm looking forserious stories, funny stories, stories that tell how our music hastouched peoples' lives, stories that tell more about what we do asmusicians, and stories that reflect our lives as musicians. The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. The bass is Bert Bacco, showing off his really deep rumble. Next is Deke Sharon and Garth Kravitis, the group's vocal instrumentalist wh
