This may we bring you updates on the National A Cappella Championships and details to our contribution to this years Arts Festival : Arts on The Move with the Notations and the TAS Youth Vocies.

NATIONAL A CAPPELLA CHAMPIONSHIPS 05 CHANGES ANNOUCEMENT

There Nationals will only consist of only the Finals (as per last years format). The date has been moved to 7th July at the Esplanade Foyer from 6.30pm 9.30pm, starting with the secondary school groups category.

Winners of each category will win not only cash prizes and trophies, but also the opportunity to perform in their own concert within the next year.

Final call for applications. Deadline for submission is now 19th June. For registration forms, please email Angie at angie@a-cappella.org.sg.

VOCAL JAM

Join us for our next jam session in June! We sing, we eat and we laugh a lot. Basically a cosy afternoon where singers get to exercise their vocal chords and non-singers get to try their hand at singing contemporary a cappella tunes with the help of other singers.

This month, we have Verve Enharmonics joining us!

CHARITY: VIBRANT BLOOD

NTU Red Cross Society is organizing a charity event, Vibrant blood, comprising of a blood donation drive, roadshow and bazaar on the 24th to 26th June 2005 at Plaza Singapura.

They are looking for volunteer performers/groups to help in the event. A good opportunity for publicity and for a meaning cause!

Our lads from Juz B were recently on Suria where they were interviewed and got the opportunity to sing as the closing segment for the show. Breath-taking as usual. Kudos guys!

NEED AN ARRANGER?

Want to sing the latest chart-topping song but don't have an arrangement of it? Fret not, local arranger Jeremy Ho wants to write arrangements for your acappella group! An experienced acappella singer/percussionist and arranger, Jeremy has written arrangements for Nanu, Ngam, Skritch and the Notations, and was the arranger of the set-pieces for last year's National A Cappella Competition.

His arrangements are also featured on the two CDs, Urban Infusion and Mistletoe. All styles are welcome, including Contemporary English/Chinese Pop/R&B, Hip-Hop/Rap, Vocal Jazz, Doo-wop/Barbershop, Christmas Carols, Gospel Worship Songs, as well as medleys of songs.

LOOKING FOR A GROUP? AUDITIONS

Looking to form an a cappella group? Looking for like-minded members with the following:

1) Understand and accept accapella singing as a part of healing process and performing art.
2) Focusing on special areas of music (non-main stream music) such as jazz from George Gershwin, new age music, re-arranging pieces of music originally written for instruments such as orchestra overtures, piano preludes and jazz trio/band pieces etc. that fit individual voices of the group as a whole amongst other qualities. The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. International A Cappella Festival for 2009 info

INTERNATIONAL A CAPPELLA FESTIVAL 14 -18OCT 2009 The A Cappella Society would like to invite you to our International A Cappella Festival for 2009. The Festival will take place at the Esplanade Recital Studio and The Arts House Chamber. It will be spread over a period of 5 days, beginning on the 14th of October 2009 and ending on the 18th of October 2009. The International A Cappella Festival will showcase performances from 4 different foreign groups compromising of Permanent Fish from Japan, Rock 4 from The Netherlands, MayTree from Korea and Tux from The Philippines. This year’s line up of a cappella teams features a variety of musical styles with rock music from Queen, Police & Sting by Rock 4 (Netherlands), Pop from Permanent Fish (Japan), Korean Pop from MayTree and the golden oldies and familiar favorites from Tux (Philippines).
