Hello everyone!

In this issue, we have many audition opportunities for you and as promised, updates on coming a cappella events.

For those who are intending to attend Camp A Cappella 101 – please register with us by Friday afternoon!

We are also calling for competitors for our annual A Cappella Championships. If you are a team looking for a project to engage yourselves in, this is a great place to start. This year we include an award for best sounding group who will get sponsored to record a track with T2 Productions and a whole lot more.

(1) FEATURES

CAMP A CAPPELLA 101 – THIS SATURDAY 3rd JUNE

Camp A Cappella 101 will be held this year on June 3rd (Sat) from 9am – 5pm. Mr Larry Detwiler who has over 15 years of experience in training a cappella ensembles and arranging countless musical scores for a cappella groups, will be leading the camp this June.

This camp is targeted at singers who have not attended any a cappella training workshops or camps before.

Limited seats available at $25 for a full day music camp which includes topics ranging from Singing Technique, Solo Singing Technique, Starting and Managing a group, singing 2 songs, choreography, microphone technique and presentation technique.

(2) NATIONAL A CAPPELLA CHAMPIONSHIPS 2006

The date of the competition is confirmed for 20th July at the Esplanade Concourse.

Groups who sign up before the 1st of July will be entitled to attend the Pop Singing (full day) workshop by Annie Nepomuceno (Philippines) for FREE. The workshop date is set for 18th July from 6.30pm – 9.30pm. Venue to be confirmed.

A new addition to this year’s prizes. 1 group stands to win the opportunity to record a song with T2 Productions. More details in the rules & regulations.

CHRISTIAN YOUTH A CAPPELLA

Calling all secondary school, ITE and Poly students who would like to join a newly formed youth A Cappella team in Singapore Youth for Christ to put up two
Christmas concerts at the end of this year. Auditions will start in July. Interested? Please contact Jaclyn Ang at 91701063.

VERTICAL HARMONY

Vertical Harmony (a young adult A Cappella team) from Singapore Youth for Christ would like to look for Christians who can sing soprano, alto, bass or do vocal percussion. We are working towards an outreach Christmas Concert at the end of the year. Auditions will start in July. Please contact Jaclyn Ang at 91701063 if you are interested.

Metro Philharmonic Youth Choir (MPYC)

is currently recruiting choral singers, preferably tenors and basses with choir singing experience, between the age of 16 and 35, to join us in 2006 Singapore International Chinese Choral Festival in August 2006 and our annual concert Aurythmics VI in September 2006. DREAM ON – CHARITY ALBUM COMPILATION

“Dream On” supported by Young ChangeMakers' Grant and CItibank-YMCA Youth For Causes is looking for a band who has a recorded track and is interested in donating the track to an album compilation for charity. Funds raised will go directly to Straits Times Pocket Money Fund. There will be a launch concert at DXO on the 22nd of July and bands/individuals who have donated the tracks would be invited to come down and play during the concert. NOISE SINGAPORE

"Noise Singapore" . Is a unique festival that aims to engage young people , 25 yrs and below to create fresh original works. Works submitted will be selected by panels, who are professionals from the industry and offered media showcase thru the web as well as free and paid media channels during the festival proper in November. The categories include art and design, music and photography. There is also an apprenticeship progamme (7 weeks) where selected participants are mentored by leading industry people. For selected works in the music category , there will be a compilation CD. More details available at www.noisesingapore.com .

ANYTHING GOES

ANYTHING GOES is styled on the popular 70s and 80s television variety shows. As the name implies, anything goes at ANYTHING GOES -- from the usual song and dance performance, to heart-stopping magic and kung fu stunts, to quirky unique acts such as poetry reading. The climate of ANYTHING GOES is the One-Minute-Of-Fame contest, where contestants from the audience come up to sing, dance, wink, sway or sell second-hand stuff. The winner will then be decided by SMS a-la-American Idol. Venue: Gold Dust Pub (Orchard Towers).

The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. International A Cappella Festival for 2009 info

INTERNATIONAL A CAPPELLA FESTIVAL 14 -18OCT 2009 The A Cappella Society would like to invite you to our International A Cappella Festival for 2009. The Festival will take place at the Esplanade Recital Studio and The Arts House Chamber. It will be spread over a period of 5 days, beginning on the 14th of October 2009 and ending on the 18th of October 2009. The International A Cappella Festival will showcase performances from 4 different foreign groups compromising of Permanent Fish from Japan, Rock 4 from The Netherlands, MayTree from Korea and Tux from The Philippines. This year’s line up of a cappella teams features a variety of musical styles with rock music from Queen, Police & Sting by Rock 4 (Netherlands), Pop from Permanent Fish (Japan), Korean Pop from MayTree and the golden oldies and familiar favorites from Tux (Philippines).
