Hello again everyone!

We're happy to launch the annual A CappellaFest ticket sales in this issue. We celebrate the annual festival on the 15th & 16th of Sep at the Victoria Theatre with a superb line up of groups and a wide range of repertoire and performance styles. Get your tickets quickly!

We're also pleased to announce the winners from the annual National A Cappella Championships. Kudos to Equivox (Open), Resonance (College) and TAG (Sec)!

Congratulations to our Champions from this year's National A Cappella Championships'06! All participating groups faired very well and competition in the college category was especially close for the first and second place winners. The overall standard of performance has again improved, so we'd like to say WELL DONE everyone! The distinguished Dr. Chia Wei Khuan will present a workshop on Vocal Health for Teachers. The workshop is also open to the public.

TAS Youth Voices

This free training programme for youth is looking for singers aged between 13 - 19. If you are interested to learn teh art of a cappella singing and management skills, performances skills and the like, and are able to commit to rehearsals on Sats from 10am - 1pm, contact us for an audition at angie@a-cappella.org.sg

Christmas Caroling - Youth For Christ

Calling all secondary school, ITE and Poly students who would like to go caroling using A Cappella arrangements at the end of this year. Auditions will start in July. Interested? Please contact Jaclyn Ang at jaclyn@syfc.org.sg .

Vertical Harmony
Vertical Harmony (a young adult A Cappella team) from Singapore Youth for Christ would like to look for Christians who can sing soprano, alto and bass. A Cappella Open Mic
In response to positive feedback, the Singapore Art Cafe will be holding a cappella open mics on a regular basis. Aug 16 is the upcoming one. Come listen to vocal bands perform familiar musical numbers and also join in the fun at the jamming session after the open mic. The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. International A Cappella Festival for 2009 info

INTERNATIONAL A CAPPELLA FESTIVAL 14 -18OCT 2009 The A Cappella Society would like to invite you to our International A Cappella Festival for 2009. The Festival will take place at the Esplanade Recital Studio and The Arts House Chamber. It will be spread over a period of 5 days, beginning on the 14th of October 2009 and ending on the 18th of October 2009. The International A Cappella Festival will showcase performances from 4 different foreign groups compromising of Permanent Fish from Japan, Rock 4 from The Netherlands, MayTree from Korea and Tux from The Philippines. This year’s line up of a cappella teams features a variety of musical styles with rock music from Queen, Police & Sting by Rock 4 (Netherlands), Pop from Permanent Fish (Japan), Korean Pop from MayTree and the golden oldies and familiar favorites from Tux (Philippines).
