From the Desk of The A Cappella Society – SEPTEMBER 2006

Greetings from Vienna J Home of the vocal festival TOTAL Vokal. We’ve been so busy with the A CappellaFest and preparations for m-pact’s Nov 26th Concert and The Real Group’s Jan 9th concert that it has been impossible to send this out sooner.

We had a fabulous time with the 10 local groups who performed at this year’s A CappellaFest to resounding feedback from our audience. Thanks to our Director, Mr. Vincent Pang and Lighting Designer, Ms. Rabita Jamal and the groups, our stage and front of house crew, and of course our supporters, we made it a success! Kudos everyone!

This is the month where we call for groups to send in their portfolios for Christmas performances and for singers to get to auditions for year-end shows as well as prepare special arrangements for the Hari Raya and Chinese New Year celebrations ahead of time, so do take note!

We’ll be back with the October installment by the 25th of October!

Happy reading and thank you to everyone who supported our events in the last few months! We can’t ever do it without you!

The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. The bass is Bert Bacco, showing off his really deep rumble. Next is Deke Sharon and Garth Kravitis, the group's vocal instrumentalist wh
