It's been a hectic month! We have plenty of secrets up our sleeves still as we continue to unveil programs for the year! Of course, we cannot spill everything at once, as tempting as it sounds; but we will let you in on some.

Firstly, the fantastic A Cappella Choir Of Villach is slated to present an evening of dazzling choral music in June. Then, A Cappella mania will all but culminate in July where the A Cappella Championships will take place, leading on to the much anticipated A Cappella Festival 2007 in August where we will have some very amazing international a cappella groups join us! The invitation cards have been sent! And yes! Groundwork has been laid and we have even started construction work for our theatre already!

Whetting your appetite for A Cappella already? Stay tuned for more.

(1) FEATURES

THE A CAPPELLA CHOIR OF VILLACH
Sat 9 June, 7.30pm, UCC Hall

Founded in 1855, the A Cappella choir of Villach is one of oldest choirs in Carintha, Austria. Their repertoire spans, a resplendent panoply of significant works from various genres of classical choral literature, and also a charming indulgence in folksongs; never to render their selection of music esoteric, the choir continues to convey their fantastic repertoire in the most accessible of fashions, to a wide array of listeners.

Wherever, whenever, whatever and however they perform, in concerts, competitions or even regurgitated via recordings, they have won the hearts of people from all over the world. They also win awards, of course- amongst them, the Ferdinand Grossman prize (2000) stands as one of their most prestigious. There is no reason why you would refuse to let this choir plunder you hearts with their amazing vocals and pristine musicianship.

The A Cappella Society will present this magnificent choir on 9 June 2007 at the University Cultural Center Hall. Tickets are at $25, and are available from The A Cappella Society via e-mail order: contact@a-cappella.org.sg

The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes.
