Key Elements "FIRSTS" performance for Esplanade Late Nite, 29 May 2009

After staging two sell-out concerts (“Jazz at the Movies” in Nov 2005 at Victoria Concert Hall and “Jazz for the Record” in Oct 2007 at Young Musicians’ Society), “Firsts” will be the a cappella group’s third ticketed event since its formation in 2001.

“Firsts” represents many – pardon the pun – firsts for Singapore’s premier vocal ensemble, as each song that they’ll be offering represents a milestone in the sextet’s musical journey: ‘I’m Beginning to See the Light’ is Key Elements’ first attempt at creating a jazz combo sound, complete with 12-bar scat solos for each member;
Shayne Ward’s ‘Breathless’ will be the first time the tenor will sing as high as the soprano; and ‘一人一半’ and ‘拢是为了你’ are two songs they first performed for the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan concert in Nov 2008.

So get your ticket, get on board and join Key Elements as they take you on this delightful and extraordinary trip! Tickets at $25 are available from all SISTIC counters, as well as from the Esplanade ticketing booth.

He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. The bass is Bert Bacco, showing off his really deep rumble. Next is Deke Sharon and Garth Kravitis, the group's vocal instrumentalist wh
