FreePlay Duo - Inspired EclecticismMultifaceted musicians Suba Sankaran and Dylan Bell join forces to create the FreePlay Duo. Described as “inspired eclecticism”, Dylan and Suba will take you from the concert halls of Europe, to the jazz clubs of Manhattan, to the temples of India, and back to the cultural mosaic of Toronto… all without leaving your seat. from Bach to Bird to the Beatles, Dylan and Suba effortlessly cross musical boundaries, continually combining and recombining sounds to create a concert of endless variety, with the intimate delivery of two people. What started as a typical voice-and-piano jazz duo began to evolve: more instruments were added, and more musical styles explored, to create a duo unique in its musical depth and variety. Imagine Simon and Garfunkel crossed with a Bach 2-part invention... or an acrobatic jazz melody combined with ancient Indian solkattu... or an 8-part vocal arrangement created by two singers, right before your eyes... and you'll get a glimpse of what the Duo has to offer.

Youth Voices - Organic Explorations
30 April 2010
Esplanade Recital Studio
8 pm
A new and more musical TAS Youth Voices will embark on it's 3rd annual concert, entitled, Organic Explorations. Shedding its past to embrace the new, the team of today's TASYV has been carefully selected to bring about a higher standard of musical prowess. (Shedding its past image as a young, vivacious teenage pop choir to solidifying potential talents in smaller ensemble teams to present music relating to youth of today). This year's concert will present YV in a variety of small ensembles featuring songs with all-female arrangements, mixed-ensemble arrangements and solos. There will be a guest appearance by our TAS Children's Pop ensemble and NANU, our leading all-female rock pop team. In Organic Explorations, TASYV will explore not only self-creations in arrangements but more importantly, they will be taken through a series of training sessions to explore musical improvisation to produce a segment in circle song singing and performance.

Pop Vocals course
Learn the fundamentals of singing in the style of Beyonce, Rihanna and other pop divas in this course! Singapore's soul sensation, Lim Huimin takes you on a musical exploration of the basics in pop singing, including securing breath control, posture, voice projection and singing through songs. Apart from pop & jazz vocal exercises that will help keep your voice in shape, you will also explore a variety of pop, jazz, mandarin songs and even ballads.
This course aims to provide singers with a good foundation in singing technique (posture, breathing, anatomy, support, tone production) and then guide you on how you can use your voice for a variety of musical genres.
The next course starts 6 January. www.a-cappella.org.sg/training.html

Advanced Vocals course
Ring in the new year and relish in something you are passionate about! The A Cappella Society would like to invite you to sign up for the course "Advanced Vocals". Good news for friends who have previously attended Ms Huimin's "Pop Vocals course"; this course would be a continuation of the previous one, where strengthening of the voice remain as the main objective, plus we would be doing some styling and other aspects of singing. ARTS EDUCATION PROGRAMME 2009/10

For the next two years we can offer your school two programmes that are NAC approved and eligible for Tote Board subsidy:

ROCK POP A CAPPELLA WITH NANU
The program presents A Cappella singing through an interactive session and demonstrates different styles and how a song is put together. It is a hands-on approach to exploring a cappella singing and vocal percussing. Hosted by a team from The A Cappella Society singing as an a cappella vocal band made up of professional singers, musicians and teachers, the session will introduce 3 tips in singing and share Vocal Percussion tips. Volunteer participation will be encouraged throughout the show and as a result the students will enjoy a highly interactive and very enjoyable and exciting presentation.

A CAPPELLA VOCAL JAM
This light-hearted and highly interactive a cappella jam session will include tips on vocal technique and will encourage the general mass audience to take part in simple and repetitive musical stanzas that are built up into songs. This will be presented with the use of theater stage skills which will help in creating a better atmosphere for the audience to be willing to try their hand at making some music! The simple structure will give the students inspiration to make more of their own tunes come alive with imagination and creativity. Led by two veteran a cappella singers and performers, this session promises to be entertaining, inspiring and intriguing.

The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. The bass is Bert Bacco, showing off his really deep rumble. Next is Deke Sharon and Garth Kravitis, the group's vocal instrumentalist wh
