An article review on the local and foreign a cappella in Mandarin

An article review on the local and overseas a cappella in Mandarin
- extracted from Facebook
A 'rough' translation:

The local a cappella groups recently sang in harmony and in tune in the hope of starting a music chapter. In September this year, MICappella won the second place as runner-up in "Sing-off A Cappella" talent program show in Shenzhen, China, letting the masses to know a cappella, thus setting a new wave of local a cappella. Last month, the seventh AKA A Cappella festival along with the set up of a cappella exchange platform A Cappella Resource Community (Singapore) (simply known as ARCS) helped to push the local a cappella phenomenon

Profit loss but still must organize
MICappella leader Huang Liechuan (29 years old)  who loves singing and has the talent and forte of vocal percussing and beatboxing, is the organiser of this fall's a cappella festival. The participating and active local  groups for this year are Vocaluptuous, Key Elements and Juz-B other than MICappella with foreign a cappella groups such as Suade from Austria, full-time Korean combined group MayTree and Taiwan aboriginal a cappella group O-Kai.

The three-day event received public praise as the local and foreign group performance has distinguishing features, for example Suade's humorous line-up, MayTree's pleasing-to-the-ear vocal quality. By exchanging views and comparing notes, the audience were able to come in contact with the different styles which increase the interest in a cappella singing.

This is the second time that Huang Liechuan organizing the event. Two years ago upon being tasked to take-over in organizing, he had to fork out a five-figure sum of his pocket, resulting in a deficit of 15,000 dollars. Despite a "hole" in the pocket, it failed to damage his love for a cappella.  40,000 dollars is being forked out this year with the support and partial sponsorship of National Arts Council and audio brand Shure and Mackie.

Presently looking at the upcoming local a cappella group this year. MICappella's performance is the most outstanding. Before the "Sing-off A Cappella", MICappella already had a non-conventional show, won the 'Gold Medal' and 'Most Outstanding Results' National A Cappella competition in 2009.Other than that, they were invited to the 'e music award victory' party the year before, performed in Singapore Youth Olympics  opening ceremony and other shows, representing Singapore to participate in Europe's large scale beautiful voice philharmonic competition 'Vokal.Total 2011 etc.

Ever since returning from China with victory and honor, MICappella wants to continue the road of music by traveling to Taiwan to perform on the 19th and 20th this month. Male tenor Go Juni said:" This event can be said to be a succession of the talent program show. Because of the significance of the program, we got much more close attention, which is why this time we have to pay to perform in Taiwan, to have an interactive exchange with the musical people and the audience there. Though still unable to sing full-time, they still actively plan their musical journey. The next step in their plan is to release an album and to hold a concert next year to thank the fans.

The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. The bass is Bert Bacco, showing off his really deep rumble. Next is Deke Sharon and Garth Kravitis, the group's vocal instrumentalist wh
