BUDAK PANTAI'S SOUND-A-LIKE CONTEST
Budak Pantai kicked off their 10 years together with a Sound-alikecontest of their own songs on 16 January 2004 at the YMCA Auditorium. Seven groups took turns to parody their impressions of aBudak song, some with more imagination than others, but all of them superbly executed. There is definitely no shortage of talent out there. The contest featured a diverse mix of college and universitymates and ex-mates, army boys and even a group of 9 to 13 year old's! The entertainment value created by these seven groups was priceless.

For once, Budak themselves were members of the audience in their own show!! The night's winners were KR ACA I, Lao Langs and audience favourite Jimmy and the Budaklings. But the true winner was friendship, as there was hardly a sniff of competitiveness amongst the groups but a camaraderie brought about by making music. What a great tribute to Budak's 10 years of friendsh! ip and certainly a fabulous start to the group's watershed year.

The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. The bass is Bert Bacco, showing off his really deep rumble. Next is Deke Sharon and Garth Kravitis, the group's vocal instrumentalist wh
