Hello One & All!


Today is a BIG day for TAS! Its A CappellaFest 05 day and we have all of 9 tickets left for the show! Thank you to everyone who has been supporting the local a cappella community through our annual show. Weve got a list of 10 groups performing today plus a guest group Wicked Pitches, who have come all the way from Kuala Lumpur to join us!

If you are going to miss us this evening, do check a glimpse of us on Channel News Asia!
Also, if you have time this weekend, make some time to catch Tic Tac Tone in concert! Considered one of our local veteran groups, TTT will stun you with their electrifying and very musical arrangements of songs in choreographed finesse. We support them all the way! Tickets will also be available at A CappellaFest tonight at a discount.

Ride on the high of the A CappellaFest and join us this month's Sunday Vocal Jam where youll get to meet new friends and importantly, to sing and jam in a conducive and friendly environment one thats about people and music. Opened to singers and non-singers alike!

JANUARY TAIWAN PERFORMING TRIP
TAS has an opportunity to propose for a local Singaporean group to travel to Taiwan in Jan 06. If you are keen, please send your demos and press portfolios to The A Cappella Society. You should ideally have a good staple of cover songs including local pop or popularized folk songs performed in your unique style as well as an attempt at original compositions. Singapore Youth For Christ Performing Arts looking for a cappella singers for end-year caroling 17-24 Dec. Will be singing in Raffles place park, Esplanade park, country clubs, shopping malls and Sentosa. All are welcome. We especially need bass and VP. Auditions in August. TAS YOUTH VOICES
The training programme for students aged between 13-19 is looking for new singers for this year ends training stint. You receive free training and performance opportunities and get to meet over 30 singers of all levels. Rehearsals are twice weekly during school holidays. BEGINNER SINGING CLASSES - LEARNING TO SING FOR BEGINNERS

8 lessons, starts 2nd OCTOBER
For those who've always wanted to sing but have thought they were beyond teaching. For those who have thought they were tone deaf and "unteachable". NEED AN ARRANGER?
Want to sing the latest chart-topping song but don't have an arrangement of it? Fret not, local arranger Jeremy Ho wants to write arrangements for your acappella group! An experienced acappella singer/percussionist and arranger, Jeremy has written arrangements for Nanu, Ngam, Skritch and the Notations, and was the arranger of the set-pieces for last year's National A Cappella Competition. His arrangements are also featured on the two CDs, Urban Infusion and Mistletoe. All styles are welcome, including Contemporary English/Chinese Pop/R&B, Hip-Hop/Rap, Vocal Jazz, Doo-wop/Barbershop, Christmas Carols, Gospel Worship Songs, as well as medleys of songs.

The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. International A Cappella Festival for 2009 info

INTERNATIONAL A CAPPELLA FESTIVAL 14 -18OCT 2009 The A Cappella Society would like to invite you to our International A Cappella Festival for 2009. The Festival will take place at the Esplanade Recital Studio and The Arts House Chamber. It will be spread over a period of 5 days, beginning on the 14th of October 2009 and ending on the 18th of October 2009. The International A Cappella Festival will showcase performances from 4 different foreign groups compromising of Permanent Fish from Japan, Rock 4 from The Netherlands, MayTree from Korea and Tux from The Philippines. This year’s line up of a cappella teams features a variety of musical styles with rock music from Queen, Police & Sting by Rock 4 (Netherlands), Pop from Permanent Fish (Japan), Korean Pop from MayTree and the golden oldies and familiar favorites from Tux (Philippines).
