Concert updates from TAS

Season's Greetings!

With the Christmas tree lighting up beside the desk of the A Cappella Society (TAS), the local a cappella scene heats up with an array of exciting concerts featuring Singapore's very best. TAS bring you the latest updates for gigs from now to January.


From 19 -23 December, Vocaluptuous presents Lush Pop Jazz at the Esplanade Theatre Studio. If you enjoy their smooth, delectable vocals as well as their classy stage presence, this is the concert for your Christmas holidays. Tickets start at $45 from www.sistic.com.sg. Agappella will also be putting on their Santa boots as well! They will perform on 20 December at the Esplanade Concourse at 6.45pm and 8pm.

And as the annual staple, Budak Pantai will also return to the Esplanade Recital Studio on 28 and 29 December, to remind us why we love a cappella done Singaporean style. Tickets are at $25, from www.sistic.com.sg.

Finally, we kick off the New Year with Sing Like It Is, presented by The A Cappella Society and Esplanade featuring an explosive and fun-filled cavalcadeof song and dance. Join us for a fantastic evening, from 5-7 Jan !

Of course, they say the best dish is kept for last! The Real Group will performat the Esplanade Concert Hall on the evening of 8 Jan and there is no reason why you should not turn up for this critically-acclaimed act! Well, unless you are going for The Fake Group's concert on the same day. You will not forgive yourself if you do not turn up!

The House Jacks in Singapore!!

Review: Our local percussionist star, Peter Huang opened the show for the House Jacks (HJs). He introduced a song or 2 from his debut solo album which the instruments were vocalised by him using layering to create a 'band sound'. However, the audience didn't take to his performance. It was grating to the ears when he made certain sounds: more like noise than music to the ears. There was a slight limp in his leg since his recovery from an accident, which prevented him from dancing around the stage too much. I think it's better that he sticks to his vocal percussion than his weak singing or hiphop rap. People were more impressed with his percussion than him singing or rapping. Good & tight harmony I would say. If you have heard Wes Carrol, the group percussionist, Peter Huang seem amateurish. Real solid vocal percussion from Wes. International A Cappella Festival for 2009 info

INTERNATIONAL A CAPPELLA FESTIVAL 14 -18OCT 2009 The A Cappella Society would like to invite you to our International A Cappella Festival for 2009. The Festival will take place at the Esplanade Recital Studio and The Arts House Chamber. It will be spread over a period of 5 days, beginning on the 14th of October 2009 and ending on the 18th of October 2009. The International A Cappella Festival will showcase performances from 4 different foreign groups compromising of Permanent Fish from Japan, Rock 4 from The Netherlands, MayTree from Korea and Tux from The Philippines. This year’s line up of a cappella teams features a variety of musical styles with rock music from Queen, Police & Sting by Rock 4 (Netherlands), Pop from Permanent Fish (Japan), Korean Pop from MayTree and the golden oldies and familiar favorites from Tux (Philippines). Lao Langs @ Central S'pore
